The Commonwealth Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) submitted a rule change request to enable its “Accelerating Electric Vehicle Charging Program”. Changes to the National Electricity Rules would be required to implement the program.

The rule change request will only focus on Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) supported by the program which the Commonwealth has outlined will be time and funding limited.

Instead of a standard (long-form) consultation paper we have published a short summary of the request and then embedded our consultation questions within the rule change request as an attachment to the summary of the request.

Submissions close 25 June.

The AEMC has also received two rule change requests related to service classification for EVCI and ring-fencing. Given the nature of these requests, these policy areas will be considered as part of Package 1 of the AEMC’s upcoming Electricity Network Regulation Review. Read the fact sheet: The Electricity Network Regulation Review and related rule change requests below for more information.

Information Session

The AEMC will host an online information session at 2.00pm – 2.45pm on  18 June to inform stakeholder submissions. During the session, we will provide stakeholders information about how the AEMC is:

  • progressing and assessing the Facilitating EVCI under Commonwealth grants rule change, and
  • how it relates to our broader work program including the Electricity Network Regulation Review and related rule change requests.

It will allow stakeholders to ask us questions about our approach through a Q&A session. Register here
